Full Arms Aftercare: What to Do (and Avoid) in the First 48 Hours
By Beyond Wax Center | October 10, 2026
Downtown St. Petersburg on the northern edge of the Historic Old Northeast
I’m quick, patient, informative, and thorough, and the biggest thing I’ll tell you after a Full Arms wax is simple. Keep your arms clean and cool for the first 48 hours. That means no hot showers, heavy sweating, swimming, or sun exposure, and keep your sleeves loose so you don’t rub freshly waxed skin. In St. Petersburg heat and humidity, this one rule does more to prevent redness and bumps than any fancy product.
Your first 24 to 48 hours: the do’s and don’ts that prevent bumps
Right after arm waxing, your follicles are open and your skin tends to be a little reactive. For most people, the next two days are when irritation happens, usually because of heat, sweat, friction, or something fragranced going on the skin.
In the first few hours
- Keep hands off the area. No picking at little dots or “checking” the skin every few minutes.
- If you feel warm or itchy, a cool compress helps. Keep it clean and gentle.
- Avoid tight sleeves and rough fabrics. Friction is a big trigger for redness.
Showering and heat (first 24 hours)
- A lukewarm shower is fine. Skip hot showers, steam rooms, saunas, and very hot baths.
- Don’t scrub your arms. Use your hands and a gentle cleanser, then pat dry.
- Avoid heavy body butters or oily balms right away. They can trap heat and sweat.
Workouts, sweating, and water (24 to 48 hours)
- I generally recommend skipping intense workouts for at least 24 hours. If you’re a heavy sweater, give it 48.
- Hold off on swimming pools, the Gulf, and hot tubs for 24 to 48 hours. Chlorine, salt, and bacteria can irritate open follicles.
- If you do get sweaty by accident, rinse off with lukewarm water and change into a clean top.
Downtown St. Petersburg tip: If you’re heading to the Pier or walking Central Avenue after your appointment, bring a light layer or stay in the shade. Freshly waxed arms plus St. Pete sun is where I see the most “why am I red?” texts.
Days 3 to 7: how to keep Full Arms smooth (and not angry)
A Full Arms wax removes hair from shoulder to wrist, so the “little things” add up fast. This is where being consistent beats doing a lot. I’m thorough on the table, but your skin still needs a calm week to stay bump-free.
Sun exposure after waxing (this matters in St. Petersburg)
Sun hits harder here, and waxed skin can be more prone to irritation and dark marks if it gets cooked too soon. Try to keep arms out of direct sun for the first 48 hours. After that, use sunscreen if you’ll be outside. This is especially true if you’re headed to St. Pete Beach, Treasure Island, or you’ve got outdoor plans anywhere around the water.
What to avoid while your follicles settle
- Skip acids and strong actives on your arms for 48 to 72 hours, including retinoids and harsh exfoliating acids. They’re great products, just not right on freshly waxed skin.
- Don’t pick at ingrowns or little bumps. That’s how tiny irritation becomes a stubborn spot.
- Avoid fragranced body sprays or heavily perfumed lotions on the area for the first couple of days.
And if you’re searching “waxing near me” because shaving keeps giving you irritation, this week is where waxing can really pay off, as long as you don’t accidentally inflame the skin right after.
Exfoliation and moisturizer: the simple routine that helps Full Arms stay smooth
For the first 48 hours, keep it gentle. After that, a light routine helps prevent clogged follicles and that prickly feel as hair starts to come back in.
Moisturize daily: Use a gentle, fragrance-free moisturizer or aloe gel. Lightweight is usually better than thick and greasy right after waxing.
Start exfoliating at the right time: Wait 48 to 72 hours, then use a mild exfoliation a couple times a week. Think gentle, not aggressive scrubbing.
Keep it clean, especially in humidity: If you’re out in St. Pete heat, rinse off after sweating and put on a clean shirt. That one habit saves a lot of irritation.

When to reach out to me (and when it’s totally normal)
A little redness, tiny dots, and mild sensitivity can be normal right after waxing. It usually calms down within a day, sometimes sooner. I’m big on comfort and detail, and I don’t want you guessing if something feels off.
“The best in town! Attention to detail why I keep coming back! She makes me feel comfortable and gets me right every time! 10/10”
one of our regulars
Reach out for a follow-up if you notice: persistent redness that isn’t improving, swelling, pus, or pain that’s growing after 48 hours. I’d rather you check in than try to “push through” something that needs attention.
