Full Face Aftercare: What to Do (and Avoid) First 72 Hours
By Beyond Wax Center | July 29, 2026
Full Face Waxing in Downtown St. Petersburg (near Historic Old Northeast) | $35

The most important full face aftercare rule is simple: keep your skin clean, cool, and hands-off for the first 72 hours. A Full Face wax removes hair across multiple areas, so your skin can feel extra reactive right after, especially in St. Petersburg heat and humidity. If you’re heading out around Downtown St. Petersburg, planning a Central Avenue night, or thinking about a beach day, give yourself that 72-hour buffer so you don’t turn “smooth” into “stinging.” Most redness settles down within 24 to 72 hours, and we’ll tell you exactly what to do so you heal quietly and keep your results looking crisp.
Your 0–48 hour plan (this is where results are won)
Right after a full face wax, your pores are open and your skin barrier is temporarily more sensitive. That’s why the first two days are all about lowering heat, lowering friction, and keeping things clean.
Quick rule: If it makes you hot, sweaty, or shiny, pause it for 48 hours.
0–24 hours: calm it down
- Cleanse gently with a mild, fragrance-free cleanser. Use cool to lukewarm water. Pat dry, don’t rub.
- Cool compress helps a lot. Clean cloth, cool water, short intervals. Don’t ice directly on skin.
- Pure aloe gel can soothe. Keep it simple. No “tingly” ingredients.
- Hands off. No picking. No scratching. Touching is a sneaky way to bring bacteria into freshly waxed skin.
24–48 hours: avoid heat and makeup
- Skip makeup on freshly waxed areas. Foundation and powders can clog and irritate while your skin is settling.
- No hot showers, steam, saunas, or hot yoga. Heat can keep redness around longer and can make bumps more likely.
- Hold off on exercise. In St. Pete’s humidity, sweat plus friction is a common trigger for irritation after face waxing.
- Avoid pools and ocean. Chlorine, salt, and shared water environments raise the irritation and infection risk.
If you scheduled your Full Face before an event in Downtown St. Petersburg or before a beach weekend, this is the part that matters. Give yourself two days of “boring skin care, ” then you can get back to normal without that surprise flare-up.
48–72 hours in St. Petersburg: sweat, sun, and the “why is this still red?” moment
By day 2 and day 3, most people feel pretty normal. But this is where a lot of accidental setbacks happen. The skin looks fine, so it’s tempting to exfoliate, throw on strong products, or spend a long day outside.
Hold these for at least 72 hours
- Retinoids (retinol, tretinoin) and strong acne actives
- Chemical exfoliants (glycolic, lactic, salicylic acids) and peels
- Physical scrubs and cleansing brushes
Sun protection starts as soon as the sting is gone
Once the initial redness calms down, apply SPF when you head outside. Freshly waxed skin can darken more easily with sun exposure. That matters in our subtropical weather, and it matters even more if you’re driving over to Treasure Island, St. Pete Beach, or just walking Central Avenue midday.
Planning tip we give a lot: If you want a smooth face for photos or a weekend out, book your Full Face at least 3 days before the plan. It keeps your week easier.
And yes, a little pinkness can hang around on certain areas longer than others. Upper lip and cheeks tend to be the most reactive. If you’re seeing steady improvement, you’re usually on track.
The simple product routine we like after Full Face waxing
We keep aftercare products boring on purpose. The goal is calm skin and clean pores, not a complicated routine.
1) Fragrance-free gentle cleanser
Use it morning and night. No exfoliating beads, no acids, no strong “medicated” washes for the first 72 hours.
2) Pure aloe gel for soothing
A thin layer is plenty. If something burns or feels “active, ” don’t push through it. Rinse it off and go simpler.
3) 1% hydrocortisone for spot irritation (only if you need it)
A tiny amount on one stubborn, itchy spot can help. Don’t use it like a daily face cream, and don’t apply it all over.
4) Mineral SPF once redness settles
Zinc-based SPF is often easier on freshly waxed skin. Apply when you’re headed outside, even if it’s “just a quick errand.”
If you’re not sure about a product you use regularly, pause it for 72 hours. Then add it back one at a time so you can tell what your skin likes.
When to text us: normal redness vs. “let’s look at this”
A little redness, mild warmth, and small bumps can happen after face waxing, especially if you run sensitive or you’ve been in the sun lately. Most of the time, it fades steadily within 24 to 72 hours.
